The refinement process is much simpler and therefore more cost effective. Brent and WTI are two of the most important light sweet crude oils in the world, and they are widely used as benchmark prices worldwide.
More cost effective may mean a ratio of 5:1 cost of capital between a complex refinery that can process heavy and acidic oil and a simple refinery using only light sweet crude oil.
In the history of the use of oil, light sweet crude oil was first used, making supplies for light candies much tighter than other types of oil.
